Commercial, public sector (schools, hospitals), domestic and industrial buildings emitted over 86,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2e) in the Better Bankside area, with commercial buildings accounting for over half of this total.
In this panel discussion, we examine what the properties in Bankside emit year-on-year and how we can reduce that number. We will talk about retrofitting existing commercial properties, the challenge with domestic buildings and the future additions to the neighbourhood with new developments.
Participants include:
- Chris Hocknell, Director, Eight Associates
- Johanna Sutton, Principal Policy and Programme Officer, Climate Change, GLA
- Felicity Masefield, Development Executive, Native Land
- Rachel Shaw, Director, Architecture PLB
Chair: Chris Webb, Head of Sustainability, TP Bennett
Refreshments will be provided.
This event is part of Bankside 2025: pioneering a low carbon neighbourhood, a programme of activity taking place from 25-29 October 2021 at a converted Southwark Street railway arch. Organised by Better Bankside and open to the public in the run up to COP26, the arch will transform into a hub for climate action, mobilising active participation from businesses and individuals from across Bankside and London.
There is a lot of debate, critical reflection and political agitation around climate change this year, but it may not be reflected on a neighbourhood scale. We want to help steer the local conversation and scrutinise what climate change means for Bankside over the next decade.
