As the festive season draws near, Better Bankside once again orchestrated its annual Bankside Christmas Gift Appeal. This initiative offers Banksiders a chance to give back to the community during this special time of year. Thanks to the generosity of Bankside businesses, the appeal aims to spread joy by delivering gift parcels to over 500 individuals facing various challenges, including homelessness, mental health issues, and our elderly neighbours.
This year’s campaign collaborated closely with charities and community services. The meticulous planning ensures that each recipient receives a thoughtful present tailored to their unique needs. From essential warm clothing and toiletries to delightful additions like crosswords and sweet treats, with every gift signed off by a lovely Banksider giving them a meaningful gesture.
A special thanks to individuals and local businesses, such as Waterfront Solicitors, whose generous contributions made this initiative possible. Through online wish lists, nearly 2000 individual gift items were donated, now en route to 5 different charities and community-based services across Bankside and Southwark, including:
- St Mungo’s Great Guildford Street hostel
- United St Saviours’ Hopton Street Almshouses
- Blackfriars Settlement’s Positive Ageing and Mental Health & Wellbeing services
- The Manna Society
But it’s not too late to join in and make a difference this winter. Consider supporting the Bankside’s Frost Fair Fund, benefitting The Manna Society, a local day centre offering warm meals and a welcoming environment for homeless individuals. Your contribution, no matter the size, amplifies the impact, ensuring warmth, nourishment, and essential support reach those who need it most during this season of giving.
