Better Bankside aims to make our Bankside as safe and security as possible, for everyone that lives, works and visits the area. Working in collaboration with the Met Police and other partners, we offer a number of training sessions to our members.

ACT (Action Counters Terrorism) Training

11 March and 13 March

This 90-minute presentation looks at the following four main topics:

  • What the current Terrorism Threat Level is/where it comes from
  • Hostile reconnaissance/ suspicious behaviour and how to spot/ report it
  • What to do about suspicious items
  • Responding to a Firearms or Weapons Attack – Run, Hide, Tell, What to do if caught up in a marauding terrorist situation

SCaN Customer Facing

The See, Check and Notify (SCaN) are available as downloadable documents. These presentations look more at suspicious behaviour and hostile reconnaissance, highlighting key activities to look out for and building staff confidence to engage and act on this. If you decide to take up this offer, please allocate three (3) hours for SCaN Customer Facing presentation and the ideal number of attendees per session is 10 to 16 to allow for group discussion and participation.

The PSO Shield app is also attached and is free to join and can be installed on most mobile devices.  It will provide you with real time updates and links to Government Counter Terrorism awareness sites. There are also useful links in the box under my signature below. This includes the ProtectUK link.

Further guidance can also be found via the National Counter Terrorism Security Office and Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure, Gov.uk and the NaCTSO.


Conflict Management Training

3 April, Bankside Hotel, 2 Blackfriars Rd, Upper Ground, SE1 9JU. 10am to 12:30pm.

The Level 2 Understanding Conflict Management Training is an engaging programme. It is fully interactive and allows group exercises and class questions, encourage learners’ engagement.

Learner Objectives:

  • Communicate to solve problems and reduce potential for conflict
  • Assess and reduce risks in conflict situation(s)
  • De-escalate conflict in emotive situations
  • Use good practice after conflict situations and the key factors that influence human responses in conflict situations
  • Current UK laws
  • Highfield Accredited Programme
  • Groups work and scenarios suited to leaners and organisation

Pub Watch

26th February. Bunch of Grapes, 2 St Thomas St, London, SE1 9RS. 09:30 – 11am.

In light of the recent FA Cup draw between Crystal Palace vs Millwall, it would be prudent to put a Pub Watch meeting in before that game, currently scheduled for Saturday 1st March 3pm. Intel around this game is still coming through with fan movements before the game unconfirmed.

Also, the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday 16th March between Liverpool vs Newcastle will bring a large number of fans to pubs across London. Chelsea vs Arsenal is also currently scheduled for the 16 March.
